About The Tacticians
The Tacticians, fronted by
brothers Ollie and Joe Jr, have made their presence felt on the London scene
in the last 18 months. They successfully released two singles on their own
label which achieved nationwide airplay and secured them a record deal with
legendary label Setanta, home of indie connoisseur pop that
launched Edwyn Collins, The Divine Comedy and Richard Hawley.
The Tacticians are talented
storytellers who possess an acutely intuitive take on life in the big city with
their tales of dangerous liaisons, temptation, failure, heartbreak and passion,
not to mention and all those petty arguments about knick-knacks and record
collections. The mishaps, the misadventures and the misunderstandings between the
sexes are a perennial source of inspiration for the band. They have an incomparable ability to mix the light-hearted with
dark and perturbing lyrics, then juxtapose them with their unique and upbeat
blend of soul, ska, country and classic pop. The result is a
multi-layered view of everyday life, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, sometimes
deadly serious, that everyone can relate to.
Ollie has a wistful,
melancholic voice with a very distinctive timbre. Like Graham Parker and Elvis
Costello, the singer demands attention and commands the stage.

When music
journalist Pierre Perrone (The Independent) caught the band at The Water Rats
in London, The Tacticians frontman, stepped off the stage and into the crowd in
a manner that Pierre described as reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen in his
barnstorming prime. A glance about the venue confirmed that girls might not be
queuing at record fairs (a theme from their forthcoming single "Girls Grow Up
Faster Than Boys" but The Tacticians have quite a female
following.
As for the band name - We
are very analytical so the name suits us", concludes Ollie. "The only problem
is that most people can't spell it right".
For the record, it's not
The Statisticians nor The Titians nor The Tacticions.
It's The
T-A-C-T-I-C-I-A-N-S.
Make no mistake.
Their debut album "Some Kind of Urban Fulfilment " is out on Setanta Records on September 3rd.
